Volvo Ocean Race Game 2011-2012 CLOSED BETA Questionnaire Hopefully this is just them getting more people in on the beta.Ĭheck out your boat they have got this Questionnaire link up now below feed back. You'd be able to the the Volvo the way the Atlantic record holders do it - wait for a weather window. For instance a light 24 at the start could be missed and you could join when the trades filled in and have the 24hours in the pub at no cost to your position. If they are allowing starting the race at different times it would pay massively to chose when to go it.

In the event of a floater, with the wind filling in later in the race the fast boat sailor has no chance, because everyone floats at all most the same speed and he doesn't have enough time to pull out the lead his handicap requires. You have a handicap fleet, good wind at race start wind drops, doesn't matter how good the guy in the slow boat is he can't catch up the fast guy's lead. I've seen this sort of thing happen in reality in dinghy racing.

Has some one feedbacked-the-boot-in about this? I'm wondering whether they thought about the wind. Though I agree it would have the be very tightly controlled or the winds will make it a farce (as appears to have happened here), the last VOR game everyone tried to start at the same time and the servers couldn't handle it, I can see the logic of the model - if you don't have to get up at 5am your time to start then the server load at leg start time is staggered and game is accessible world wide. I've had no response to the feedback I've posted.Īs a practical solution to a world wide game the elapsed time thing is understandable.
